Discover Your Natural Face Shape

Understanding your face shape is the foundation of personalized styling. Our AI analyzer identifies your unique facial geometry in seconds, giving you the insights to choose hairstyles, glasses, and accessories that naturally complement your features.

The Six Primary Face Shapes

Oval

Characteristics: Length is approximately 1.5 times the width. Forehead slightly wider than chin. Gently curved jawline with no sharp angles. Cheekbones are the widest point.

Styling Approach: Often regarded as the most balanced shape. Nearly any hairstyle, glasses frame, or accessory works harmoniously. This versatility allows for experimentation with current trends.

Professional Tip: Center parts, sleek updos, and bold statement frames complement your balanced proportions effectively.
Round

Characteristics: Width and length are nearly equal (approximately 1:1 ratio). Soft, curved contours throughout. Full cheeks and a rounded chin. Minimal angular definition.

Styling Approach: Create vertical visual lines to add length to the silhouette. Volume at the crown and height on top elongate the face effectively.

Professional Tip: Long layers extending past the chin, side-swept bangs, and angular frames add definition to your features.
Square

Characteristics: Strong, well-defined jawline with clear angles. Forehead, cheeks, and jaw exhibit similar widths. Prominent bone structure creates geometric appearance.

Styling Approach: Introduce curves and texture to soften angular features. Layered cuts, textured styles, and rounded frames create visual balance with natural structure.

Professional Tip: Soft waves, side parts, and oval or round eyewear complement strong facial architecture beautifully.
Heart

Characteristics: Broader forehead and cheekbones, narrowing progressively to a pointed or gently rounded chin. Often features a widow's peak hairline.

Styling Approach: Add visual width at chin level to balance the broader upper face. Chin-length styles and lateral volume work exceptionally well.

Professional Tip: Chin-grazing layers, textured ends, and bottom-weighted frames bring harmony to your facial proportions.
Diamond

Characteristics: High, prominent cheekbones represent the widest point. Narrow forehead and delicate chin. This is the rarest facial geometry among the six primary shapes.

Styling Approach: Balance dramatic cheekbone prominence by adding width at forehead and chin areas. Textured layers and wispy elements work effectively.

Professional Tip: Side-swept bangs, strategic layering around cheekbones, and cat-eye frames accentuate your distinctive angles.
Oblong

Characteristics: Length significantly exceeds width (1.6:1 ratio or greater). Relatively straight sides with consistent width from forehead to jaw. Also referred to as rectangular.

Styling Approach: Introduce width and horizontal visual lines to balance vertical length. Bangs, lateral waves, and wider frames create proportional harmony.

Professional Tip: Blunt bangs, shoulder-length styles with volume, and horizontal frame shapes are particularly flattering.

Manual Measurement Alternative

Prefer the traditional approach? You can determine your face shape with four simple measurements:

  1. 1. Forehead Width: Measure across your forehead at its widest point, typically midway between your eyebrows and hairline.
  2. 2. Cheekbone Width: Measure from the outer corner of one eye to the other, across the tops of your cheekbones.
  3. 3. Jawline Width: Measure from the tip of your chin to below your ear, then double it.
  4. 4. Face Length: Measure from the center of your hairline down to the tip of your chin.

Interpretation Guide:

  • • If length ≈ 1.5× width → Oval
  • • If length ≈ width with curves → Round
  • • If length ≈ width with angles → Square
  • • If forehead widest, pointed chin → Heart
  • • If cheekbones widest → Diamond
  • • If length > 1.6× width → Oblong

Common Questions

Is face shape genetic or can it change?
Your bone structure is largely genetic and remains stable through adulthood. However, weight changes, aging, and facial volume shifts can subtly alter your apparent shape. That's why we focus on current proportions for styling, not permanent categories.
What if I'm between two shapes?
Many people sit at the boundary between shapes — for example, oval-oblong or round-square. Our tool will identify your closest match and runner-up. In borderline cases, you can borrow styling tips from both categories.
How accurate is the AI detector?
Our detector achieves high accuracy with clear, front-facing photos. However, photo angle, lighting, and hair coverage affect results. For best accuracy, ensure your face is well-lit, directly facing the camera, and hair is pulled back.
Are these rules strict or flexible?
Think of face shape categories as styling guides, not rigid rules. The "goal" of creating an oval illusion is a traditional principle, but modern styling celebrates all shapes. Use these insights as a starting point, then experiment with what makes you feel confident.
